| PROJECT INFORMATION | The Honourable Company Special Economic Zones (HCSEZ) Expansion Project is a national infrastructure development initiative designed to establish five Special Economic Zones (SEZs) across the country. This project aims to attract foreign direct investment, boost manufacturing capabilities, create employment opportunities, and enhance India's position as a regional manufacturing and logistics hub. Project Objectives:
The fifth and final of these zones is the Pondicherry Industrial & Services SEZ. It is located within the city of Pondicherry in the Company Territory of Puducherry. It will be made up of high-density export zones focused on services, IT, advanced manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, fintech, and tourism-support industries. It will be designed as an integrated urban economic district and the total size will be roughly 1,000 hectares. These 1,000 hectares will be broken into 400 hectares dedicated to services sector offices, IT parks, financial & corporate campuses; 250 hectares dedicated to advanced manufacturing, pharma, and light industry; 150 hectares dedicated to logistics hubs, warehousing, and custom facilities; 150 hectares dedicated to worker housing and mixed-use urban infrastructure; and 50 hectares dedicated to utilities, power infrastructure, and expansion reserve. Within this zone will also be a high-capacity grid connection with dedicated substations, a fiber-optic backbone with redundant data centres, an industrial wastewater treatment & recycle system, integrated transit corridors connecting to the port and airport of the city; and a dedicated export facilitation and customs clearance centre. |
