PROJECT NAME | Rural Roads and Connectivity Project |
PROJECT COST | 425,000,000.00 |
COMPLETION DATE | 15/03/2026 |
PROJECT INFORMATION | To improve economic integration and social welfare, the construction and upgrading of durable rural roads that connect remote villages to key economic centres, enabling year-round access to markets, healthcare, education, and public services will be underway. Road Construction and Upgrading Approximately 5,000 kilometers of all-weather rural roads using cost-effective methods will be underway. Prioritizing gravel roads with paved surfaces on major routes connecting villages to district centres. Roads will be designed to resist seasonal flooding and erosion. Bridge and Culvert Installation The construction or rehabilitation of roughly 300 small to medium brigades and culverts along rural corridors to ensure uninterrupted connectivity during monsoon seasons. Signage and Safety Measures Installation of road signs, markers, and speed control measures to enhance safety for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Maintenance Training and Community Engagement Establishing local road impact assessments and incorporate mitigation measures to minimize ecological disruption. Engaging with local communities to ensure the project meets their needs and avoids displacement. It is expected that this project will reduce travel time from villages to markets and service centres by 40%. It will increase agriculture income through easier market access, improve school attendance and healthcare access, and job creation through construction and maintenance programs and easier access to large settlements. This project will undergo 4 phases, totaling 15 months. |
