Statement from the Republic of Argentina

The Government of the Republic of Argentina would like to address the nations of the world regarding the ongoing crisis on Antarctica.

The Antarctic Continent was for decades a cultural and social player in the mindset of the southern communities of Argentina. Being only few hundred kilometers distant and less than two hours away on aircraft, it sparked the collective imagination, fasctinating explorers and researches alike. Being part of the continent considered an integral piece of the Republic of Argentina, to avoid creating conflict, any claim of sovereignty was kept internal and the issue was not brought up on the international scene to avoid sparking a conflict.

This delicate status quo, balance of power and unspoken understanding of gentlemen to keep the continent at peace and for science was BROKEN by the Kingdom of Sweden with its unilateral and neo-colonial claim from a desk far away, 15,000km. Not only pretending to annex land to their cause, in total disregard of other nations histories and positions, but AN ENTIRE CONTINENT, something unheard of in human history.

Just minutes ago an unarmed argentine icebreaker on a logistical and scientific mission was intercepted and collided by a swedish military vessel after a bullyish maneuver from it. Damage and casualties are as of now uncertain and measures are being undertaken to safeguard human lifes at sea. What is not uncertain is the Kingdom of Sweden's role in the execution of an act of war against the Republic of Argentina by engaging an unarmed ship despite all attempts from Argentina to avoid it.

You will see here live audio and video recordings from the ARA Almirante Storni.

(Recordings of the argentine ships radio contacts asking the swedes to move away plus video images of the swedish ship putting itself into collision course would be streamed publicly. AIS recording showing the argentine ship reducing its speed and mantaining a linear path while the aggresive swedish maneuvered boldly ignoring nautical and navigational safety procedures would also be transmitted)

Thus, considering this act of aggression, Argentina will engage in military maneuvers to ensure its national security is up help. All Geneva Conventions will be respected and a exclusion zone will be declared below the 60°S, entering into effect at exactly 0000 hs. All swedish vessels or armed units entering said area will be considered hostile and acted upon. Once the swedish usurper has been removed from the continent, and everything is returned to the previous scenario, hostilities will be terminated and argentine combat units will withdraw from the continent.

Antarctica belongs ultimately to the nations who actively incorporated them into their ways of life and national focus, such as Argentina, Australia and New Zealand, among others. Even Norway has a rich antarctic history and a certainly valid claim. But ultimately, it is a continent for peace and science, not for a far away nation to try to have a XX century “scramble for Africa” run of military conquest.

The present statement would be distributed through all official media in Argentina, as well as sent to international need agencies.

It would be broadcasted over radio networks and TV to reach all possible audiences on such a delicate matter related to nacional security and international law.

Reports and guidelines would be sent to all argentine embassies and representations abroad. As well as a full report and copy Of the recordings to the representative attempting the GA Summit on Antarctica.

It would be circulated aa fast as possible.

The Canadian government would make an official statement regarding the Argentine's. Jean Chrétien himself would be to one to speak.

"It is a saddening thing that the current situation in Antarctica has resulted to such violence and disregard of both peace and life. The government of Canada has been carefully monitoring the situation through dialog with various nations. While the nations with geographical and historical claims have spoken out regarding Sweden's aggressive behaviors towards them, Sweden has remained entirely silent regarding these accusations and now with Argentina's statement and evidence towards Sweden... Canada must take a stand with Argentina and Australia in believing that Sweden is the aggressor in this conflict.

We must also state that Canada agrees with Argentina that the continent of Antarctica is one for peace and science, not military nor economic gains. Once again, Sweden has remained silent even with such evidence placed against them. Thus, Canada must believe that Sweden arrived to Antarctica with their armed forces not to secure the continent for peace and science but to use it to their own advantage to harass the nations near it and for other gains. Sweden has no valid claims on the continent; they have no historical reach, no geographical proximity, and certainly made no public statement of their intent within the continent.

Canada therefore officially stands with the victim nations against the Kingdom of Sweden and their allies of the Nordic Council in that Sweden is the aggressor and that the Antarctica situation must be dealt with quickly and effectively to assure world peace. Sweden must be removed from Antarctica.

Thank you." With that the statement would end.

The Brazilian Government would make a public statement regarding the situation in Antarctica, The Prime Minister, Mr Filho, would be the one to address the nation and the world.

"
I shall be direct and straight. As I've had the displeasure of having to argue and witness a dispute that has unfortunately reached a boiling point.

Brazil has attempted to take a neutral stance in the ongoing crisis surrounding Antarctica and those who wish to claim it. We have strived for peace through negotiations and diplomacy, but it seems that with recent developments, such a possibility seems to be floating away and slipping from our hands.

We supported a return to the status quo since this crisis even began, and will continue to do so until the very end, however, as the situation stands, to achieve true neutrality alongside world peace, has simply become impossible, It has become clear who the aggressor truly is in this crisis, therefore, we give our support towards the Argentineans, and hope that the coming storm is brief and that the light of peace may shine once more.

Thank you.
" The Statement would end with that.

A short statement is released by the Swedish Department of Defence:

"The released clip from the Republic of Argentina is edited and manipulative. In order to reassure the nations released the devoted support for the clear violation of international law by the Argentine Navy. The attached footage, photographs and audio recordings show radio transmissions and physical viewings of the collision that ensued between a Swedish Navy vessel and the Argentine Navy vessel; as you will see and hear the crew aboard HSwMS Snö gave clear and concise instruction to the approaching vessel to divert its course and to identify itself, the vessel failed to do both of these things. Failing to identify an unidentified vessel is, in itself, a violation of the Law of the Sea. On five separate occasions HSwMS Snö pleaded with the vessel to no avail, despite the ship having ample opportunity to change its direction of travel, it failed to do so and in turn collided with the Swedish ship, leaving the ships company as subjects of the freezing waters. No attempt for search and rescue operations."

The Swedish Department of Defence releases the unedited and full audio recordings, alongside photographs and video captured.

In response to the swedish statement, the Republic of Argentina would inform that according to radar information, the nearest naval assets are of swedish nationality, more ARMED warships in a continent of peace, and they did not execute any attempt of conducting SAR, leaving their sailors do die in the freezing waters. Their presence in the area makes it imposible for the Argentine Navy to safely conduct SAR operations in the area, without risking getting engaged by the hostile swedes. Considering the damage done to the ARA Almirate Storni it is not recommended for it to maneuver an conduct SAR operations and will assistance itself.

No comments would be made on the childish accusation regarding the video and audio evidence.

The Australian Government would thank the Canadian and Brazilian Governments for their support and reiterates its support it had for the Argentinian research expedition to Antarctica it made in the Prime Minister's second statement, the one he had to make after incorrectly condemning the Argentinians a first time based on incorrect information that they had ARMED vessels heading to Antarctica and has condemned the actions of the Swedish Royal Navy as "reckless."
